Filicudi, known in ancient times as Phoenicusa (the Island of
ferns), is the oldest of the Aeolian Islands. The “Fossa delle
Felci”, is its highest point at 773 m. It is very interesting
from an archaeological point of view:
the two most important ancient settlements (“piano del porto”
and “Capo Graziano”) date back to the Bronze Age.
The “Bue Marino” grotto is impressive, and not far away you can
admire the tall rock called “Canna”, which is an excellent place
for scuba diving as the sea around it is rich in coral, sponges
and lobster.
The most beautiful panoramic point is that of Perciato, from
which you can admire a series of natural rock formations. Monk
seals were present here up to 1937.
Today, especially on the northern side, there is a colony of
Eleonora’s Falcons.
